Our Start

Marathon was started by Paul and Gail Nelson out of their two-car garage in the spring of 2000 to provide its customers with true value by combining service excellence with competitive pricing. Paul, a Boston moving veteran, was quickly joined by several friends to create Marathon’s core team of moving professionals. Marathon quickly became known to local realtors, move coordinators, and clients eager to work with a value-based moving company. With demand growing, the two-car garage did not last long and was soon replaced by larger commercial facilities.

Built On Service

The company has grown and new team members have been carefully vetted to ensure they had the desire to be the best. Holding employees new and old to the highest standards allowed Marathon to maintain a company of moving professionals that provides outstanding service from start to finish. Marathon chose to invest in its employees over advertising and starting in 2003 began removal of most advertising in favor of a strong benefits package for its employees. This decision was rewarded by its employees winning the 2004-2007 Super Service award from Angie’s List, the BBB Gold seal for excellence, and several other awards. The greatest testimony however would be in our customers. Marathon now completes 2000 moves a year with over 90% coming from repeat or referral sources.

A Quality Partnership

In June of 2005, Marathon became an agent for Stevens Worldwide Van Lines. Stevens is still family owned and operated after 100 years of service and shares Marathon’s strong commitment to quality. This commitment was evidenced by Stevens becoming the first van line in the United States to become ISO 9001:2000 certified. Becoming an agent for Stevens has enabled Marathon to meet customer’s needs for interstate and international moves while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. As a result of continued growth, Marathon Moving now maintains a 23,000 sq ft vaulted and temperature controlled facility for its residential and small commercial clients.

Expanding The Business

To meet the demands of larger commercial clients, Marathon purchased Gray Movers in December, 2006. This addition brought significant equipment additions for commercial moves of all sizes.
